Maidenhead is a large town on the River Thames which grew rapidly following the opening of the railway. Brunel's Railway Bridge over the Thames (1½ miles from station) is famous for its flat arch, known locally as the Sounding Arch. The Bridge is a shorter walk of only 1 mile from Taplow station. The Thames Path is 1¼ miles from the station, the path is along roads in Maidenhead and it changes sides at the road bridge. Maidenhead is the junction for the branch line to Cookham, Bourne End and Marlow.
