Morpeth is a historic market town on the River Wansbeck with a castle (not open to the public). The Old Bakehouse Millennium Green was created from wasteground, access is from an alleyway off Newgate Street. Tourist information is available from Morpeth Chantry.

Morpeth Bus Station is ¾ mile from the Railway Station.

Morpeth Chantry Bagpipe Museum ½ mile

The 13th century Morpeth Chantry is a rare example of a bridge chantry where blessings would be given to passing travellers in exchange for a small fee. The Bagpipe Museum on the first floor has a collection of pipes from across Europe, including Northumbrian Pipes. Admission free, donations welcome.

Cragside NT by bus

Illuminated by hydro-electricity and powered by hydraulics, Cragside is filled with Victorian gadgets for efficient modern living. It was home to inventor and arms manufacturer William Armstrong and his wife Margaret. The surrounding grounds are a fantasy mountain landscape featuring man-made lakes and waterfalls, a Rock Garden, Pinetum and Formal Garden. Waymarked trails. Tearoom.

Warkworth Castle & Hermitage EH by bus

The formidable medieval Warkworth Castle was the home of the powerful Percy family, Earls of Northumberland, who were often at war with the Scots or English kings. The towered walls are almost intact and there are good views from the top of the Keep. The Duke's Rooms have been restored to show how they were lavishly decorated. Trails and sculptures in the grounds explain events in the castle's history. A ¾ mile riverside walk and ferry lead to the Hermitage.

Allow time to explore the attractive village of Warkworth which retains its medieval layout and bridge over the River Coquet. Warkworth's sandy beach is ¾ mile from the Market Place.
