Corby was well known for its steel works which were built in the 1930s. It was designated a New Town in 1950 and expanded rapidly. Corby's railway station reopened in 2009.

Corby Heritage Centre ½ mile

The Heritage Centre is housed in a restored 17th century cottage, the oldest residential building in Corby. It contains a small display about Corby's history plus temporary exhibitions.

Rushton Triangular Lodge EH by bus

An extraordinary folly built 1593-97 for Sir Thomas Gresham. All its features come in threes, intended to symbolise the Holy Trinity.

Kirby Hall EH by bus then 2 miles

Much of the magnificent Kirby Hall is a roofless shell but some of its finest state rooms survive. Displays explain Kirby's rise and fall, including its rescue after 1930. Picnic areas.

Bus 2 from Rockingham Road (½ mile from station) to Corby Business Academy by a long route through Little Stanion and Weldon (about 35 minutes journey). Return buses are direct to Corby, Lloyds Road and take only 8 minutes. M-S hourly. From the Corby Business Academy bus stop it is 2 miles walk to Kirby Hall. Operated by Stagecoach.

Lyddington Bede House EH by bus

Built of the local ironstone, Lyddington Bede House was originally the wing of a medieval Bishops palace. It was converted into an almshouse for poor 'bedesmen' and remained in use until the 1930s. See the bedesmen's rooms and the bishops' great chamber. Allow time to explore picturesque Lyddington village too.

Lyndon Visitor Centre and Nature Reserve by bus then 1½ miles

On the shore of Rutland Water reservoir, Lyndon Visitor Centre is home to the Rutland Osprey project. Wildflower meadows and bird watching hides. Refreshments and picnic area.

Anglian Water Bird Watching Centre 2 miles or by bus then ¾ mile

The Anglian Water Bird Watching Centre is the gateway to Egleton Nature Reserve, part of the extensive Rutland Water Nature Reserve. A network of lagoons and wetlands plus meadows, woodland and hedgerows make it a great place to see birds and other wildlife. Bird watching hides. Refreshments and picnic area.
