Compton Castle NT by bus then 1¼ miles

A medieval fortified manor, once the home of Sir Humphrey Gilbert, part-founder of the New World, and still lived in by his ancestors. Rooms on view include the hall, solar, kitchen, guard room and chapel. The gardens feature roses, herbs and a picnic orchard.
