Scarborough became Britain's first seaside resort when healing water was discovered running down the cliff in the 17th century
and Scarborough Spa developed for visitors. It has two bays of sandy beaches, South Bay Beach is ½ mile from the station.
The Central Tramway is a historic cliff lift down to South Bay. There is another cliff lift near Scarborough Spa.
The Old Town near the Harbour has narrow streets and historic buildings. The Lifeboat Station is open by appointment.
Peasholm Park has a naval warfare show with model ships on Mondays and Thursdays in summer.

The Rotunda Museum is a stone building with a cylindrical tower constructed in 1829 as one of the first
purpose-built museums in the country. It houses important collections of Jurassic geology from the Yorkshire coast.
A frieze shows the geology of the local coastline.

The remains of medieval Scarborough Castle are on a spectacular headland with steep drops on three sides.
Museum in the Master Gunners House. The large grassy headland is maintained as a wildflower meadow and has remains of a Roman
