Wallsend is at the eastern end of Hadrian's Wall and part of the wall can be seen ¼ mile from the station.
Built around AD125, Segedunum was part of an extension to Hadrian's Wall built a few years after the main wall
which formed the north-west frontier of the Roman empire. It is one of the most completely excavated forts of the Roman empire.
Highlights include a reconstructed bath house, Roman toilet seat, portable shrine, spearheads and throwing stones for defending the fort.
The Museum also covers the more recent local industries of coal mining and shipbuilding. Viewing tower. Café.
