Tynemouth is a popular seaside town with a sandy beach ½ mile north of the Metro station. The impressive Collingwood Monument is dedicated to Vice Admiral Lord Cuthbert Collingwood who was second-in-command to Admiral Lord Nelson in the Battle of Trafalgar.
Tynemouth Priory and Castle are on steep-sided headland at the mouth of the River Tyne.
The 14th century monastic gatehouse is a miniature castle at the entrance to the Priory ruins. A highlight is
the tiny 15th century Percy Chantry chapel. The site includes underground gun batteries from the two World Wars.

The Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade's Watch House Museum covers the Brigade's history from 1864
to the present day. Exhibits include paintings, items recovered from local shipwrecks and a working model of breeches
