As you cross the River Don you can see the 18th century Jarrow Bridge which once carried the main road. Note that Bede Metro station is nearer to these attractions than Jarrow Metro station.

St Paul's Monastery, Jarrow EH ¾ mile

The ruins of St Paul's Monastery dating from medieval times are behind St Paul's Church. An earlier 7th century Anglo-Saxon monastery on the site was the home of the Venerable Bede, chronicler of early English Christianity. Part of the church Bede knew survives as the chancel of St Paul's Church. Admission free.

Jarrow Hall ¾ mile

An open air, living history museum with an Anglo-Saxon village showing life during the time of the Venerable Bede. Experimental buildings based on archaeological excavations in Northumberland. Anglo-Saxon Farm with rare breeds and rescued animals. Bede Museum with local archaeological finds. Events programme.
Open mid Feb-mid Dec, ThFSSu 1000-1600. Also open TW for Easter and Aug.
