Tilbury Fort is the best example of a 17th century bastioned fortress in England
with most of the moats and outworks surviving. An exhibition covers the fort's role in defending London
and advances in military engineering. There are good views across the Thames to Gravesend from the ramparts.

Bus 99 from station to Tilbury Riverside, Ferry Terminal, then ½ mile walk.
2 minutes journey (8 minutes return via town centre), M-S mostly ½-hourly. Train tickets to 'Tilbury Riverside'
and 'Tilbury Stations' are valid on the bus which operates to connect with the Gravesend ferry.
