Southend (or Southend-on-Sea) is a resort on the Thames Estuary with a famously long Pier and other seaside amusements. Southend's sandy beach is ½ mile from Central station and ¾ mile from Victoria station. A statue of Queen Victoria stands in the Cliff Gardens. Take the historic cliff lift down to the beach or there are modern lifts in the Observation Tower. Southend Travel Centre Bus Station is ¼ mile from Central station and ½ mile from Victoria station. Southend PlusBus tickets are valid for travel within the urban area.
The Gallery has a permant collection ranging from 17th century Dutch paintings to contemporary works.
