Silchester Roman City Walls and Amphitheatre 2¾ miles
Once an Iron Age tribal centre, Silchester became the important Roman town of Calleva Atrebatum.
No buildings survive but the complete 1½ miles of encircling walls can be traced. The remains of a
Roman amphitheatre are outside the walls. A free audio guide can be downloaded from the website. Admission free.
Finds from excavations at Silchester can be seen in Reading Museum.
Open Daily dawn-dusk.
