Deal is aquiet seaside town with a pier and a shingle beach only ¼ mile from the station. From Deal Castle it is a 1¼ mile walk along the coast to Walmer Castle. Deal PlusBus tickets are valid within an extensive area including Walmer, Sandwich and Dover.

From 1855 to 1927 the timeball gave accurate time to nearby ships.
The timeball today drops daily at 1300, during Apr-Sep it also drops hourly from 0900-1700.
The Museum on four floors has displays relating to communication, including semaphore and other forms of signalling.

One of the finest Tudor artillery works in England, Deal Castle was built as part of a chain of coastal
fortresses. The whole castle can be explored from the storerooms to the captain's residence.
