Queen Elizabeth Country Park by bus

A large Country Park of downland and woodland in the South Downs National Park. Leaflets from the Visitor Centre show walking trails including the South Downs Way. The Country Park extends both sides of the A3 (linked by road and path under A3) and includes Butser Hill with good views from its summit, 1¼ miles from the Visitor Centre. Butser Hill is a National Nature Reserve supporting chalk downland species including rare butterflies and moths. Café and toilets at Visitor Centre, picnic areas. Events programme. Admission free.
Open at all times, Visitor Centre Daily 1000-1700 (1600 Nov-Mar).

Bus 37 from Bus Station to Queen Elizabeth Country Park, the stop is at the QECP turning. Follow the road and path under the A3 to the Visitor Centre, ¼ mile. About 60 minutes journey, M-F hourly, Sat every 1½ hours. Operated by Stagecoach. The bus journey from Petersfield is shorter.

Butser Ancient Farm by bus then ¾ mile

An archaeological open-air museum with experimental reconstructions of ancient homes from the Stone Age to the Anglo-Saxons. The buildings aim to give an impression of what daily life was like in the South Downs thousands of years ago with Stone Age beds, Roman toilets, Celtic herb gardens and other features. Rare breed animals. Light refreshments. Events programme with costumed characters.

Bus 37 from Bus Station to the 'Hampshire Hog' shortly after Clanfield, then ¾ mile walk. About 60 minutes journey, M-F hourly, Sat every 1½ hours. Buses return from the layby on Chalton Lane (¾ mile), note that buses cannot safely stop immediately after leaving the A3. Operated by Stagecoach. The bus journey from Petersfield is shorter.
Butser Ancient Farm is 1¼ miles by footpath from QECP Visitor Centre.
