Hockley Woods ¾ mile

Hockley Woods are the largest remaining area of the wildwood which covered much of Essex after the Ice Age 10,000 years ago. The woodland is a Nature Reserve with a wide variety of tree species and many plants which only grow in the undisturbed soils of ancient woodland. Bluebells can be seen in late spring. Admission free.

The main entrance is by the Bull Inn but from the station it is more direct to enter from Woodlands Road.
