Hockley Woods are the largest remaining area of the wildwood which covered much of Essex after the Ice Age 10,000 years ago. The woodland is a Nature Reserve with a wide variety of tree species and many plants which only grow in the undisturbed soils of ancient woodland. Bluebells can be seen in late spring. Admission free.
Open Daily 0700-1830.
The main entrance is by the Bull Inn but from the station it is more direct to enter from Woodlands Road.
