Godalming Museum - 109A High Street
Displays on local history in a 15th and 16th century timber-framed building with Georgian and Victorian additions. Local personalities include Gertrude Jekyll, Edwin Lutyens and John Phillips (radio operator on the Titanic). Tel. 01483 426510.
Open*: TWThFS 1000-1700 (closes 1600 in winter).

Winkworth Arboretum NT - by bus
Hillside woodland with lakes, rare trees and shrubs and sweeping views. Wetland area. The most impressive displays are in spring (magnolias, bluebells and azaleas) and autumn (stunning colours). Tearoom. Tel. 01428 208477.
Open*: Daily 1000-1800 (1600 Nov-Mar), may be closed in bad weather (especially high winds).
Bus: 42 from High Street to entrance, watch for the NT sign - there are no bus stops. 10 minutes journey, M-S every 1 to 2 hours. Operated by Compass Travel, Traveline tel. 0871 200 2233.
